A 4G Connection to Uganda

March 25, 2021

Located in southeast Uganda, Child Empowerment Program (CEP) works to create a community in which all vulnerable children are able to reach their full potential in life by providing educational, civic and economic opportunity. Pangea Giving has supported CEP since 2018 and in 2021 we awarded them an operating grant for $9,920. This month’s Member Spotlight features Lorraine Toly, one of our newest board members (since April 2020) and an active member of the Latin America Pod. What do you appreciate most about being a Pangea member?   I have always been interested in other cultures and languages, and Pangea is a way to deepen that interest beyond tourism and academic study, because of the knowledge, dedication, and contacts of other Pangea members and the inspiring partners we have.  Also, I believe we Americans should be more engaged with the rest of the world, and Pangea is a way to be so, in...[ Read More ]

In this month's Member Spotlight, we hear from Cheryl Houser. Cheryl is a longtime member of the East Africa pod and a wonderful advocate and liaison to Dandelion Africa. How did you first get involved with Pangea? When I became an empty nester, I was looking to get involved with a non-profit focused on women’s empowerment in developing countries. I was hoping to find one with like-minded folks where I could not only be a donor but also volunteer and learn about global issues. Having traveled extensively throughout the world over the years seeing so much inequity, I had a...[ Read More ]
For this month's member spotlight, we wanted to share something a little different. Leslie Grace is one of the original Pangea members in the early 2000s. She was drawn by Pangea's experiential nature and the opportunity to help out internationally. Over the years she's brought a number of new members to Pangea and stayed around because she appreciates the Pangea community, including other longterm members like Linda Mason and Cathy Roth. Outside of Pangea, Leslie was the owner of the Seattle University District institution, La Tienda Folk Art Gallery. The story below includes a few quotes about Leslie from other...[ Read More ]
