Pangea launches pod advisers program

In 2021, Pangea committed to gaining greater perspective and depth to our grantmaking process through identifying trusted leaders from our alumni partners and known local experts. This commitment has coalesced into our new pod advisers program, through which we have identified three wonderful leaders and long-time friends of Pangea to help us think through our grant making, serve as our eyes on the ground as we support current partners and help provide context for the latest developments in the regions where we fund.

In July, we welcomed Elvia Raquec, Programs Director for Women’s Justice Initiative, as our first pod adviser. Elvia will work with the Latin America pod to evaluate our grant making process and think about ways we can provide technical assistance to our grant partners.

August marked our first meeting with our two East Africa pod advisers, Joshua Machinga of Common Ground and Wendo Aszed of Dandelion Africa. Over the coming months, Joshua and Wendo will meet with the East Africa pod to talk about ways they can support our current partners and identify potential future partners.

Because of their focus on the complex political and social unrest in Myanmar, our Southeast Asia pod has put the pod advisers program on hold for 2021. But they are eagerly awaiting feedback and lessons learned from piloting this new initiatives in the other pods.

Over the next few months, we’ll be profiling each of these amazing leaders.
