Innovative Solutions Preserves Children’s Access To Education During Covid-19 Lockdown

Our partner, Child Empowerment Programme (CEP), is a grassroots organization that seeks to empower children in rural eastern Uganda to reach their full potential. Through educational and community development programs, CEP supports them to become leaders in the social-economic transformation of their villages.

To mitigate COVID-19 effects at schools, CEP Uganda provides internet access connections to 50 devices for its staff and students. This connectivity, financially supported by Pangea Giving, facilitates communication among teachers and students, and is an essential source of information to support students in their assignments. Here is the story of Mr. Waiswa Nelson, a teacher and administrator at Yana Community High School, a beneficiary of CEP projects:

“We have been struggling to find reference materials to read and research that support our module, and information we share with our students during lessons. In addition, data shortage on our smartphones restrained our research capacity and our work with students.

We thank our donors from Pangea who have supported us to overcome those hardships. Now we can use our free internet at school to research and read different books to improve our knowledge and teaching efficiency. Our smartphones have become an essential tool: we download educational videos and project them in our classes, which has increased students’ learning, improved their performance, and understanding of the topics we teach them.

Thanks to our donors for making this happen, and May God bless you so much.”
