Member Spotlight: Emily Ho
Welcome to the Board! In this month’s member spotlight, we hear from Emily Ho, fresh from being elected to our Board of Directors in April 2021.
How did you first hear about / get involved with Pangea? How have you participated in Pangea as a member?
I have been an active member of Pangea since the fall of 2018 and soon afterwards, went on my first site visit to Myanmar in the spring of 2019. Since then, I have been a member of the Southeast Asia pod.
Why are you a Pangea member?
I first heard of Pangea from my dear friend, Paul Silver, when I was searching for new ways to give back to society. I admire the core values of my fellow Pangea members and our mission to support the global community. Pangea has the ability to benefit communities effectively because it supports groups at the grassroots level with relatively modest means and minimal overhead. I also love the ability we have as Pangea members to make personal connections with our grant partners when we visit their home countries and see first-hand the work they do and the challenges they face.
What is one interesting thing about you that other Pangea members might like to know?
In a past life, I played ultimate frisbee at a competitive level. Who knew that a casual pickup game would lead several years later to travelling and playing with a nationals level team based in Chicago. Fun fact: the Seattle area hosts one of the largest coed ultimate frisbee tournaments in the world in Redmond, WA around the July 4th weekend.
